Summary

Well here it is the last of the assignments for Library Lady.  And I haven't gained weight even with all of the comments about food each week.  So here I go to answer the always insightful questions that are asked each week.

  1. How would I rate myself.  Well I know more than I did and some of the apps I probably won't use but I know they exist so I would rate myself about a 7.  I would like to say I would have liked to experiment so more with some of them but I have not had a lot of screen time available to me this summer so I will review this again in the fall when I have have more time to stare at the screen and play around with the programs.
  2. I really think my expectations were exceeded.  The program was fun (lots of silly stuff so you felt that you did not have to be a techie to learn) and I was able to find out about things that I did not even know existed.  I will recommend this to anyone who might have an interest, any age.
  3. The most challenging thing was that sometimes the videos or explanations did not match what the site looks like today.  I know that these things change on a regular basis and it is hard to be right up to date but it was kind of confusing sometimes.  As I have said I did not have a lot of time each week to complete the task so these bumps in the road did throw me sometimes.
  4. I love the self directed stuff.  I took your web design course and found I was frustrated since I wanted to do a lot more faster than you can with a group since you have to work a the rate of the slowest person.  Keep up with these since they are great for me.
  5. As I say I would highly recommend it and I have even already thought of some people to talk to it about.  LOVE IT>

The Library Thing

My Library link

This is kind of cool.  I belong to a book club at my church so I should enter all of those too and see what other books get recommended to me.  I really like that they show you the cover of the book too since there are sometimes ones by the same title so you get the right one.

Does it allow you to put sub categories to the books ie mystery, historical so that you can just see the ones in that subgroup.  I will have to search around the site to see.

Yes I think I will use this one.  Thanks again for showing me new and cool things on the web.

Feeds me Seamore

Okay so I did the Google Reader thing and I get it.  What I really now is things to really look at but it is a great tool.  I will tell my husband about it since he is really into checking on a few sites to see what is new.

Feeds I subscribed to were

  1. Miami Hearld - my Uncle lives in Miami so I can be up on what is happening there
  2. A English version of a paper in Holland - my son is doing an exchange with a boy there in the fall so this might be interesting so see what is happening there and get a feel for the country.
The Reader was easy to use.
Would I use it was answered my by my comments above.

PB Wiki's

Okay so that took me a bit to get.

I loved the little video so there I was "Edit Type Saving" and then realizing that I was doing the wrong thing.  I was supposed to be commenting on the wiki not changing it.  Once I figured that out I was off to the races or should I say BBQ.  Good thing dinner is coming I was getting hungry.

Now to my answers (drum roll)

What dish was I bringing - real brownies since all the kids love them and I really don't think that the Black Bean ones will be a big hit.
Wiki Experience - I mentioned this above.  Easy to use once I realized what you wanted.
Do I have need for a Wiki - not sure but I will keep it in mind.  Probably would be good for my son who is in high school and they have to do group stuff all the time (I hate group stuff since half the kids just wait for the others to do all the work).  So maybe.  Love the concept though.

Look I got my homework done a day before it is due.  Applause No really sit down it is not that big an accomplishment.

Not sure if this working again the notes did not match the words on the program so hope I choose correctly.

Photo sharing

So I have now found my new obsession.  The Where in the world game that was on Picasa.  What fun and a learning experience too (okay not so much but it helps me feel better when I lose an hour of my day looking at other peoples pics).

So the tags that where on the photo that I sent you.

  • Poodle puppies
  • red mini poodles
  • Remy
  • Snow covered dog
  • Report Abuse ( not sure if that was a tag or just a click to report).
I liked Picasa and I think I might try to update some photos so that I can see the edit features etc.
I have family who live in Alberta so this might be a good way to share without having to send such big files over the email.  I do like the comment section as well.

Thanks again for exposing me to the joys of all these new programs.

twitter

Okay so I am now on Twitter.  Not sure what I think about this yet but I will see what happens and let you know.  I am following only a few people but I worry that I might lose myself in the reading about others.  I guess I really have to Tweet myself so I can then get a following, my goal is 2 people.  Like I say dream big or don't join stuff like Twitter.

By the way Library lady, the link on the site was to Facebook and the App A stuff says Facebook so you might want to update that.  I guess the last time this was signing up for Facebook so some of the stuff slipped through the cracks.

I worry about telling too much about yourself online so I am going to make up a persona, maybe a 30 something hip and happening chick.

Thanks again for this course really enjoying it.

Tagging

Sorry I was late with my homework.  I will try to get caught up this weekend.

Loved this Tagging thing.  Again it took me awhile to figure out what I was to do but I LOVE IT.  I am planning on teaching my son how to us it since I think it would be great for school research etc.  Where was this stuff when I was at school, granted when I was at school the computer was a new toy that we could not figure out why it was going to take over the world.

I tagged some sites that were about tourist attractions in TO since my son is doing an exchange trip in the fall we want to find out what the cool things to see are.

Thanks for letting me experience life in the cloud, I have read about it but now I am up there floating around with the big boys.

I forgot to comment

The embedding was a bit different than the video explained but thank god for a teenager in the house who knew what to do.

I have used YouTube before what a waste of time or a time waster whichever your perspective.
I think streaming has become so popular since everyone wants to be a star.  Even my teenage son (as mentioned above) as a site where he has his band playing.  they are about to get 85 hits so he is very excited http://www.youtube.com/embed/vq47JifUlVQ

I don't know if I would post anything on youtube but never say never.

My rating

So I do know what the Web 2.0 world is but wanted to be a user and not just a looker.  So on a scale I would say a 5.

This is fun and my nieces and nephews are impressed.
